DanicaDanica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racing racer. Danica Sue Patrick is among the most accomplished female in American open-wheel car racing the history of open-wheel racing. Her win in Indy Japan 300 was her first win. With the permission of her parents, she dropped out of highschool and moved to the United Kingdom in 1998 to pursue a career in the sport. Patrick participated in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001 due to the lack of funds. In 2002, she took part in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races along with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick later raced in the Toyota Atlantic Series for the subsequent two years. Her best result was third in the championship standings for 2004 season. She was the first female driver in the series to win an overall position. She was awarded the 2005 IndyCar Series Rookie of Year. She showed improvement over the following two years by joining Rahal Letterman Racing in 2006 and then Andretti Green Racing in 2007. Patrick finished sixth in the driver's standings after winning in Japan. She then improved to finish fifth in the following season. This resulted in her finishing a record-breaking third at the Indianapolis 500, the best performance by a woman in the race. Patrick's overall performance was disappointing in 2010, however she was able to secure two second-place finishes on oval tracks before she left IndyCar to concentrate full-time on racing stock cars.
